  1. Download Virtual TV to the Netscape directory.
  2. In Netscape, Select General Preferences from the Options menu. The Preferences dialog box opens. Click on the Helpers tab.
  3. Click on the Create New Type button. The Configure New Mime Type dialog box opens.
    • For Mime Type enter "application".
    • For Mime SubType enter "binary".
    • Click OK. You are returned to the Preferences Helper dialog box.
  4. In the File Extensions field, enter "vtj".
  5. In the Action area, select the Launch Application radio button, then click on the Browse button. A directory box opens.
  6. Navigate to where you downloaded the vtvwin.exe file. Select vtvwin.exe and click on the Open button. You are returned to the Preferences Helper dialog box.
  7. Now click OK, and the Preferences Helper dialog box closes.

  1. If you use the link below to download the RealAudio installer, a new window will be opened so you can view these instructions at the same time.
  2. Complete the form on RealAudio's download page and download ra32_30.exe or ra16_30.exe to a temporary directory.
  3. Open the temporary folder and double-click on the file ra32_30.exe, for Win95 or ra16_30.exe, for 3.1/3.11. The installer launches.
  4. Follow the steps in the install program, making sure to indicate the speed of your Internet connection.
  5. When the installer is finished, it automatically quits and restarts Netscape, taking you to the RealAudio home page. Have some fun there, then come on back to STIM.

- for Macintosh

  3. playerfat30.hqx and playerppc30.hqx are BinHex files. Use the BinHex4 Decode command from the Translate menu in Stuffit to un-binhex the file, then unstuff the resulting stuffit archive.
  4. Double-click on the RA Player Installer (FAT or PowerPC) to launch the RealAudio installer. Real Audio requires that you reboot your machine after installation, so close any open applications before installing.
  5. Follow the steps in the install program, making sure to indicate the location of the Netscape Plug-Ins folder, and the speed of your Internet connection.
  6. Restart your Macintosh after installation is complete.

  1. For Win95: download the Quicktime installer to a temporary storage folder.
  2. For Win 3.1/3.11 :download the Quicktime installer to a temporary storage folder.
  3. Open the temporary folder and double-click on the file QT32.EXE for Win95 or QT16.EXE for 3.1/3.11. The installer launches.
  4. Follow the steps in the install program. The Quicktime player installs to C:\windows\player.exe.
  5. In Netscape, Select General Preferences from the Options menu. The Preferences dialog box opens. Click on the Helpers tab.
  6. Click on the Create New Type button. The Configure New Mime Type dialog box opens.
    • For Mime Type enter "video".
    • For Mime SubType enter "quicktime".
    • Click OK. You are returned to the Preferences Helper dialog box.
  7. In the File Extensions field, enter "qt, mov".
  8. In the Action area, select the Launch Application radio button, then click on the Browse button. A directory box opens.
  9. Navigate to the Windows directory. Select player.exe and click on the Open button. You are returned to the Preferences Helper dialog box.
  10. Now click OK, and the Preferences Helper dialog box closes.

-Quicktime 2.5 for Macintosh
  1. Download the compressed Quicktime player to a temporary storage folder.
  2. QT25.HQX is a BinHex file. Use the BinHex4 Decode command from the Translate menu in Stuffit to un-binhex the file, then unstuff the resulting stuffit archive.
  3. Once you have the uncompressed QuickTime file, move it into the Extensions folder in your System folder.
  4. Reboot your Macintosh.

  1. Download the Live 3D for Windows 3.1 or the Live 3D for Win95 installer to a temporary storage folder.
  2. Open the temporary folder and double-click on the file 3dns16g.exe or 3dns32g.exe. The file unzips.
  3. Double-click on setup.exe to start the installation.
  4. Follow the steps in the install program, making sure to indicate where the Netscape Navigator program is installed on your computer.
  5. When the installer is finished, restart Netscape to register the plug-in.



- for Mac Power PC
  1. Download the Live 3D for Mac Power PC installer to your desktop or a temporary folder.
  2. Open the folder. Double-click the installer icon to run the set-up.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Restart your Mac as suggested by the installer.
  5. Click on the Create New Type button. The Configure New Mime Type dialog box opens.
    • For Mime Type enter "application".
    • For Mime SubType enter "pdf".
    • Click OK. You are returned to the Preferences Helper dialog box.
  6. In the File Extensions field, enter "pdf".
  7. In the Action area, select the Launch Application radio button, then click on the Browse button. A directory box opens.
  8. Navigate to the Adobe Acrobat directory. Select the Acrobat Reader file and click on the Open button. You are returned to the Preferences Helper dialog box.

  2. Open the temporary folder and double-click on the file ACROREAD.EXE. The installer launches.

  1. Download Shockwave for Windows installer to a temporary storage folder.
    (Note: if these links don't work, then go to Macromedia, and follow their download instructions.)
  2. Open the temporary folder and double-click on the file n16d40.exe or n32d40.exe. The file unzips in a DOS window.
  3. Double-click on the file setup.exe in the temporary folder. The install program launches.
  4. Follow the steps in the install program, making sure to indicate where the Netscape Navigator program is installed on your computer.
  5. When the installer is finished, quit and restart Netscape to register the plug-in.

- for Macintosh
  1. Download the Shockwave for Mac plug-in to a temporary storage folder.
  2. n68d50.sea.hqx and nppd50.sea.hqx are BinHex files. Use the BinHex4 Decode command from the Translate menu in Stuffit to un-binhex the file, then unstuff the resulting stuffit archive to a new folder.
  3. Quit Netscape (just in case)
  4. Drag the unstuffed file with the little puzzle piece icon on it, into the Netscape Plug-Ins folder.
  5. Open Netscape to register the plug-in.
  6. Two just-to-make-sure measures: Select "About Plugins" from the apple menu. You should see "application/x-director" listed in the Netscape Plugins window.
  7. Increase the cache size by selecting Network Preferences from the Options menu. Set the cache size to at least 5M.
